Postal 5.6 - Abstract Street Photography
I am very honoured to be the judge of this Abstract Street Photo contest organised by @postal 5.6
In most photo competitions, abstract street photos seldom get their chances because probably it is very rare to get judges who are real abstract street photo practitioners who can go beyond conventional style or graphical style to understand abstract photos or understand what it takes to do it.
We also hardly see a real practitioner who can give a definition of “Abstract Street Photography”.
So, in my personal definition:
Abstract Street Photography is not an easy genre. It uses the visual language of shapes, forms, colours, lines and if possible, combination of these elements to create a composition that conveys the mood. What’s more difficult is being an abstract street photograph, it means the photographer has to have imaginations, sees the unposed and un-staged candid streets beyond the naked eyes, uses the actual elements on the streets, be so creative that without digital manipulation, compose the picture in such a way that the picture looks beyond the reality.
On 4 Jan 2024 (8pm Mexico City time), I was interviewed by our enthusiastic Mexico street photography community @postal_5.6
Here's the recording of the live interview: https://www.instagram.com/p/DEbfMbQNNra/?hl=en
The session was attended by participants around the world and it was conducted in both English and Spanish.
The interviewers asked me several good and interesting questions related to my definition of abstract street photography, my influences, how did I manage to develop my unique style, how do I define a good photo, how do I keep up with creativity etc.
It is also my honour to be a judge of their abstract street photography contest. It is not common to find a photo contest or competition dedicated to abstract street photography and find a good suitable judge.
